GateOne Moves Into Wyoming With Fourth FBO GateOne acquired the FBO at Northeast Wyoming Regional Airport (KGCC) in Gillette, Wyoming, effective April 19, 2023. The location is the fourth for the company and its first in the state. The acquisition came via an RFP process after the airport’s completion of a new, $3.3 million general aviation terminal in 2022. GateOne was chosen over five other applicants for the lease. “We are thrilled to help move the airport forward in this beautiful facility and honoured to be its inaugural FBO,” Thomas Mathew, CEO of GateOne, said. The 5,500-square-foot, mountain-contemporary terminal features a stacked-stone exterior with natural wood, expansive windows and vaulted ceilings throughout. The location will offer full FBO amenities, including a crew and passenger lounge, flight planning area, crew rest facility and fully-equipped conference room with seating for 12. GateOne KGCC will also offer aircraft maintenance, de-icing service, tie-downs and 29,772 square feet of hangar space able to accommodate aircraft up to a Gulfstream. “We plan to offer maintenance services for aircraft from single engines to turboprops and possibly jets,” Mathew said. “We’ll also look at the needs of the local and transient communities, and see if we need to build more hangars to attract both customer segments.” In addition, Mathew plans on adding a flight school and small charter operation at the location, anticipating the latter will facilitate aerial surveys for the oil and gas industry, and U.S. Department of Wildlife. Situated in northeast Wyoming five miles northwest of Gillette, GateOne KGCC is surrounded by breath-taking natural areas, including Big Horn National Forest, Thunder Basin Grassland and Devil’s Tower National Monument. Its rural setting offers an easy in-and-out with a long runway and instrument landing system (ILS). GateOne KGCC will be moved in and open for business July 1. As an Avfuel-branded FBO, it will offer benefits including competitive prices with Avfuel Contract Fuel, lucrative rewards with AVTRIP and streamlined transactions with the Avfuel Pro Card. It joins sister locations at Cedar City Regional Airport (KCDC) in Cedar City, Utah; Stinson Municipal Airport (KSSF) in San Antonio, Texas; and Chandler Municipal Airport (KCHD) in Chandler, Arizona. “Avfuel has a long relationship with GateOne and we’re excited for Wyoming traffic to experience the high level of service the company has to offer at its newest Avfuel-branded location,” Mark Haynes, Avfuel’s vice president of sales, said. “We congratulate the GateOne team on its newest acquisition, and thank its leadership for putting its trust in Avfuel.” GateOne owns and operates four fixed base operations serving the Southwest aviation community—GateOne Stinson (KSSF) in San Antonio, Texas, GateOne Cedar City (KCDC) in Cedar City, Utah, and Chandler Air Service (KCHD) in Chandler, Arizona, and GateOne Northeast Wyoming Regional Airport (KGCC), Gillette, Wyoming. HKBAC In-situ Expansion Investing to Upgrade Hong Kong’s Infrastructure as International Aviation Hub The Hong Kong Business Aviation Centre (HKBAC), Asia’s Premier Fixed-Base Operator (FBO) at the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), broke ground today to commence its HK$400 million in-situ expansion. The project is scheduled to complete in tandem with the Three-runway System and will contribute to enhancing Hong Kong’s ability to provide world class business aviation services underlining the city’s international aviation hub status. The Ground-breaking Ceremony was officiated at by Mr. Lam Sai-hung, Secretary for Transport & Logistics, Guest of Honour, with guests including Mr. Algernon Yau Ying-wah, Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development, Captain Victor Liu Chi-yung, DirectorGeneral of Civil Aviation as well as Mr. Jack So Chak-kwong, Chairman of Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) and Mr. Fred Lam Tin-fuk, Chief Executive Officer of AAHK. Representing HKBAC’s shareholders on the occasion were Mr. Raymond Kwok, Chairman and Managing Director of Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited and The Hon. Sir Michael D. Kadoorie, Director of Sir Elly Kadoorie & Sons Limited and Director of HKBAC. Mr. Allen Fung Yuk-lun, Chairman of HKBAC and Mr. Philip L. Kadoorie, Director of Sir Elly Kadoorie & Sons Limited also joined the Ceremony. Mr. Lam Sai-hung, Secretary for Transport & Logistics, said “HKBAC will, by virtue of this expansion project, be well-positioned to stay on top of the competition, improve the travel experience for passengers and tap into the rapid growth of business aviation demand in the Greater Bay Area and beyond, thereby helping Hong Kong to maintain its status as a premier international aviation hub.” Mr. Jack So Chak-kwong, Chairman of Airport Authority Hong Kong, said, “Business aviation plays an important role in strengthening Hong Kong’s status as a global financial centre, and Hong Kong International Airport’s position as an international aviation hub. It provides business travellers with enhanced flexibility and efficiency, which are advantages in our modern commercial world. Upon completion of the expansion in 2025, Hong Kong Business Aviation Centre will double its handling capacity for business jet movements, tying in with our Three-runway System and the Airport City developments.” Mr Raymond Kwok, Chairman & Managing Director of Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited, referred to the impact of the challenging COVID pandemic over the last nearly three years and said, “There are always new challenges, and with that the need for new solutions. Originally, most of our clients were business owners, banking executives and high net-worth individuals. Now our clients have become more broad-based and group charters have begun to figure more prominently. “We want to re-think how best to meet their differing requirements. The Threerunway System is coming on line and the Greater Bay Area beckons. Hong Kong’s traditional gateway role will resume as soon as the door swings open. Like New York and London, Hong Kong plays a key role in servicing the needs of international capital. HKBAC’s role is to serve the needs of those at centre of these investment decisions for whom time is money, speed essential and freedom of movement vital.” The Hon Sir Michael D. Kadoorie, long time aviation advocate, said, “We’ve always embraced a long-term view for aviation and Hong Kong. We believe in connectivity and Hong Kong’s unique competitive edge as a world city known for the highest standards and best services, in addition to the plentiful development opportunities just across the boundary into the Greater Bay Area. Business aviation, with the option of cross-boundary helicopter commercial services, presents a seamless way to go from and to Hong Kong within the GBA and will help drive and raise integration momentum to benefit Hong Kong and the GBA. Despite the impact of the pandemic, I strongly believe, as my late father said likening it to a bouncing ball - the further it drops, the higher it will come back in future.” In response to rising demand and the changing demand landscape, HKBAC’s expansion plan will proceeded in two parts: the first includes the refurbishment and expansion of the existing Executive Terminal Building (ETB) with an upgrade on the co-located customs, immigration and quarantine (CIQ), plus a new all-weather canopy stretching from the ETB to shield and serve both aircraft and passengers. The second part features a new Support Terminal with enlarged facilities to cope with emerging demands from chartered flights and group travel flights, plus additional offices for fellow business aviation stakeholders, both to be launched in 2025. Mr. Robert Chan, Executive Director of Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited and Project Director of the expansion project said, “it is one of the most exciting projects that needs to cater to customer’s demands emphasising higher efficiency, greater flexibility, and better privacy. Together with the existing HKBAC facilities, the in-situ expansion shall deliver an area 5 times that of the existing ones and the number of car-parking bays double the existing provision. The new HKBAC will include designated and exclusive drop off and fast track check-in for ultimate privacy access when required by the customer. The new Terminal Building will include VIP Lounge and Suites for individuals, families and groups, providing world class services. The thoughtfully designed CIQ shall allow fast-track departure and arrival. Pilot and Crew lounges are also enhanced to provide well-equipped spaces for them to work on their flight plan or simply to rest. The new HKBAC will also be a good place for aviation-related business events and shows. As an iconic feature of the new Terminal Building, “The Canopy” is first-of-it-kind in Asia and commands a span of over 26 meters. It is designed to cover a private jet and to serve and protect its customers from different weather conditions. Various green and smart features including solar panels, EV chargers, and smart building management systems are also provided in the new HKBAC with various green labels.” The expansion is expected to not only enhance customer service capacity and experience, but also provide the opportunity for digitalisation and continuous innovation to ground HKBAC’s reputation as Asia’s Best FBO known for safety, service and style. HKBAC has been offering round-the-clock professional aircraft and ground support services for general aviation aircraft, including business jets, diplomatic and emergency flights. The majority flights handled by the HKBAC are business flights. An economic study in recent years found that at least 65 of the top 100 Hong Kong listed companies utilized business aviation. Aerobility flying scholarships for 2023 launched for disabled people Aerobility has opened applications for flying scholarships for 2023. Aerobility is a UK Charity which changes lives by providing anyone, with any disability, with the access to the magic and wonder of flight. The 2023 scholarship application window is now open for Aerobility’s five-hour flying scholarships which give people with disabilities a chance to fly. The window opened on 28 April and will remain open for six weeks until 9 June. Aerobility scholarships are grants that enable anyone with any disability to start to learn to fly, irrespective of their background. This is one of the ways the charity removes the financial as well as the physical barriers to accessing aviation. One of Aerobility’s scholars from 2022 was Andy Braybrook, from Grantham, who has been paralysed since a motorcycle accident six years ago. Andy said: “The scholarship has given me something to study toward and look forward to each week and proven that my fear of not being able to fly the plane was completely unnecessary. “As soon as I saw the scholarship advertised, I knew that a door was now open to me which would not have been, had I not been disabled and not known about Aerobility.” Another previous scholar was disabled British Army veteran Dave Evans from Newport, Gwent. Dave said his scholarship experience left him with feelings of “improved self confidence” and an “improvement in mental health.” Mike Miller-Smith, CEO at Aerobility, said: “We offer scholarships to allow anyone, with any disability, to experience the magic of flight. We know first hand how participating in aviation changes lives and we want as many people as possible to experience that. “This is only possible because of the generosity of our donors and supporters so we thank them very much indeed.” Anyone with a disability can sign up for an Aerobility scholarship. Photo credit: © F/LIST Sustainable Aviation Fuel available at Inverness Airport Highlands and Islands Airports Limited (HIAL) is delighted to offer sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) at Inverness Airport. The cleaner fuel product is supplied by World Fuel Services as a 35% blend and is available to all flight operators at the airport. SAF is a synthetic form of jet fuel derived from sustainable sources, which is made up from recycled materials including used fats and oils. SAF is then blended with conventional Jet A1 aviation fuel and can be used in any aircraft or engine certified to operate with regular Jet A1 fuel. HIAL’s ambition is to become a net zero regional airport group and is committed to a continuous supply of SAF at Inverness Airport, where there is an ongoing demand beyond previous supplies for one-off events or trials. Although the technology to develop low and zero emission aircraft is progressing at pace, in the short-term, flying will remain Jet A1 fuel based. SAF can act as a bridge between current operations and these new technologies. Offering life cycle carbon reductions of around 70%, SAF plays a key role in the aviation sectors journey towards net zero. HIAL has already made several steps towards understanding and reducing its carbon emissions and undertakes annual carbon footprint calculations. Initiatives already introduced across the group include solar powered passenger boarding ramps; 100% electric or hybrid Ground Power Units (GPUs). New optimised de-icing equipment as well as a replacement programme of traditional petrol cars with electric vehicles. We have replaced a number of large fire fighting appliances with smaller equivalents that provide 30% fuel savings and diesel consumption. HIAL’s Managing director Inglis Lyon, said: “At HIAL we are committed to reducing our environmental impact. As an operator of 11 airports, it is important to work with aviation partners to decarbonise flights within Scotland and SAF will play a vital role to help meeting the Scottish Government's target to create the world's first net-zero aviation region by 2040. “The offering at Inverness Airport takes us one step closer to meeting our sustainability goals. Making SAF available at Inverness will hopefully be a catalyst for its wider introduction across the Highlands and Islands providing those flying in and out of our airports a real the choice to support decarbonisation and sustainability goals. Duncan Storey, Vice President, Supply Aviation Europe at World Fuel Services, said: “World Fuel Services is committed to the industry’s goal of reducing carbon emissions. Since 2015, we have delivered more than 39 million gallons of sustainable aviation fuel to business and commercial aviation customers worldwide. Making sustainable aviation fuel available at Inverness furthers the adoption of cleaner fuels. World Fuel will continue investing in innovative solutions and expanding renewable and lower-emission fuels and energy offerings to help advance the industry on its path to net zero.” Kevin Stewart, Minister for Transport said: “While it’s important to have longer term targets to achieve net zero, it’s equally important to reduce emissions today where we can. The introduction of a continuous supply of sustainable aviation fuel at Inverness Airport will enable aircraft flying now to lower their emissions as we work to achieve full net zero.” DJL Aerospace – A fresh new way of working in the MRO industry DJL Aerospace are proud to announce receipt of their part 145 maintenance organization approval from the UK Civil Aviation Authority and Guernsey 2 reg aircraft registry, allowing their work as heavy jet maintenance partners.
